Flamengo: History and Green Spaces
The Flamengo neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro is home to the Catete Palace, an urban mansion that served as Brazil's presidential palace from 1897 to 1960. Construction of the palace began in 1858 and concluded in 1867. Today, the Catete Palace houses the Museu da República (Republic Museum) and includes a theater. The property extends from Rua do Catete to Flamengo Beach, with the Catete underground rail station located adjacent to it. 2
Flamengo is also known for Flamengo Park, also referred to as Aterro do Flamengo. This park is recognized as the largest public park and recreation area within Rio de Janeiro and is considered the largest urban seaside park globally. Situated along Guanabara Bay, Flamengo Park connects Downtown Rio with Copacabana. 3
